REAL WEDDINGS by Niamh
Wedding planning is hard at the best of times, but what if you’re planning a wedding from thousands of miles away? If that’s your current challenge, then Jessica and Dermot’s lovely wedding, planned from their home in Canada, should provide some comfort, As they had just a brief homecoming during which to celebrate, it was essential that their wedding was all smooth sailing and just that extra bit special. To make this achievable, they invited only their closest family and friends and picked an amazing venue, Ballinacurra House, which they took over for the entire weekend. So if you’re reading this far away from home right now, thinking about how your wedding is going to be, sit back and enjoy a look at the beautiful images of Poppies and Me, and be assured it all turns out beautifully when you hire a wonderful team of pros.

Jessica and Dermot first met when they serendipitously moved into the same house together. Dermot’s friend (and best man) Tom was moving out of the house, so Dermot moved in. Then the very same year Jessica moved into another spare room in the same house. Jessica and Dermot soon realised just how alike they were and became a couple.

Dermot proposed to Jessica over a glass of wine at night in Tuscany. A complete surprise to Jessica, Dermot proposed with a gorgeous necklace. The couple then went ring shopping together in Cobwebs, Galway, once they got home. A really sweet idea if you’re thinking of proposing, but not quite sure what ring to buy.

As Jessica and Dermot now live together in Canada they really wanted to have their wedding in an exclusive use venue, that they could share with all their friends and family for the weekend. Luckily for them they found the gorgeous Ballinacurra House, where they held both their outdoor ceremony and reception.

Jessica explains why Ballinacurra was the perfect choice for them…”One visit to Ballinacurra House with its amazing grounds and unique rooms sealed the deal for us. It offered all the privacy we wanted on the day with the many facilities of Kinsale just a stone’s throw away for our guests who were travelling in for the occasion. If we were going to roll the dice and gamble on an outdoor wedding in Ireland, this was definitely the place to do it! I think the shots from Poppies and Me really capture the beauty of the place and we really lucked out by being able to have our ceremony outside.”

The pretty outdoor ceremony was held in the Ballinacurra House gardens, surrounded by lush gardens and a canopy of rich green trees

The ceremony was the highlight of the day for Jessica, Dermot and their guests who enjoyed the ceremonies unique and personal feel. “The ceremony really stands out to both of us in making the day so special and personal to who we were. How often do you get a chance to sit outside in the Irish sunshine, surrounded by your family and closest friends and make your wedding vows? I cannot praise Tom Farrell enough for making the ceremony uniquely about us, giving us the freedom to choose our own music, vows, readings etc. We blended a lot of traditional elements with a symbolic candle lighting and hand fastening ceremony, which meant we could have our mums, dads, sisters, godparents and friends all take part, it was so emotional and happy all at once.”
